Sharing Smiles with Community Products Project 2

“Sharing Smiles with Community Products Project 2” – Thai Roong Ruang Sugar Group spreads joy with New Year 2024 gift sets

As a gesture to express gratitude to our benefactors, Thai Roong Ruang Sugar Group has curated special New Year 2024 gift sets featuring selected community products crafted by the Nong Bua Srang Community Enterprise from Sakhon Nakhon Province and the Non Kung Local Weavers Group from Nakhon Phanom Province. These Hang Rice in Natural-Dyed Bag gift sets highlight creative applications of local knowledge.

Sakhon Nakhon Hang Rice – A symbol of care from Thai Roong Ruang Sugar Group

For over 30 years, the Nong Bua Srang Community Enterprise in Sakhon Nakhon Province, consisting of 49 farmers from 80 families, has passionately cultivated organic rice, giving rise to the renowned Sakhon Nakhon Hang Rice product. These farmers are dedicated to the use of organic farming methods that are chemical-free, contaminant-free, and healthy for both farmers and consumers.

Traditional farming techniques of the Phu Thai tribe, passed down through generations, are meticulously followed at each and every step. Nearly ripe rice is first soaked to stimulate germination, maximizing the Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) content. Then, the rice is cooked to preserve essential nutrients, followed by drying, de-hulling, seed sorting and packaging. The end result is a nutritious product packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber delivered to customers.

Handmade, Naturally Dyed Fabric Bags

Local communities have long woven traditional fabrics, colored them with natural dyes, and sewn them into clothes for both personal use and sale. The Non Kung Local Weavers Group from Nakhon Phanom Province sought to explore the adaptation of these traditional practices to fabric bags. Recognizing the high potential of this initiative, Thai Roong Ruang Sugar Group supported the Non Kung Local Weavers Group in honing their tie-dye skills. The communities then applied these skills to create handmade, tie-dyed fabric bags, which Thai Roong Ruang Group included in the gift sets for our benefactors.

The resulting bags boast vibrant pink hues achieved through high-quality, natural dye produced from the bark of Kho trees sourced from the Baan Non Kung Community Forest. Each bag showcases a unique, one-of-a-kind pattern, a testament to the imagination and creativity of the community members.

Supporting Sustainable Development

Beyond spreading happiness and expressing gratitude to our benefactors, the Hang Rice in Natural-Dyed Bag 2024 New Year gift sets initiative also contributes to social value through supporting skill development for local communities, fostering opportunities for the advancement of community products, and championing the sustainable development of the grassroots economy.
